And so my collection begins. No more SteelBooks for me.

I borrowed a pic that doesn't have the awful NZ ratings sticker on it.

We've down this road before...No more SteelBooks for me is a phrase that shouldn't be uttered by you or anybody here.

If you remember the past, and you lived it, some of us used to put blurays inside a G1 DVD case and call it a hybrid.

So mark my words again: you'll be tempted and you'll fall again.

I bought the American SteelBook of B Vs S and put the regular Bluray and the extended Bluray in it. I bought the Italian one and put the 3D Bluray and the 4K ones in. Hybrids live again.

I chose the 3D disc over the 4K to fill the DVD slot on mine.

On another forum I was complaining about the quality of 3D discs on my TV, and that I have stopped watching 3D because of it. One kind person suggested that I try and configure one of the preset options just for my 3D watching. I inserted Hugo into my player and started to mess around with the settings. I improved the PQ immensely (to my old eyes) but had a problem with ghosting. Turned off some of the default settings, turned some back on and generally played around for about 30 minutes until voila! I had a PQ to be proud of. So, Eldo, I can see why you like 3D. I'm gonna try some more 3D discs and see how they look now. After all I have 56 in my collection, so its time to catch up on a few while I'm waiting for a 4K setup. (y)

As I try to future proof my Home Cinema, I just received my fifth 4K UHD....Pacific Rim! I promised myself that I would not double dip on any titles that I already own on BD, but the reviews of this title made it impossible to resist.

    upload_2016-11-27_13-19-11.png

I have read several reviews about this release, and it seems that almost everyone is saying that this is the 4K disc to beat. Reference quality PQ with the best HDR available, and includes an ear shattering Dolby Atmos audio score. Pacific Rim is a 2K DI upscale, so there should be some mind blowing releases when the "real" 4K UHD's start to hit the shelves. Planet Earth 2 was shot in 4K, so, if done correctly, it should be another reference UHD disc.

I plan to be fully 4K enabled before Christmas 2017, and my next hardware purchase (if reviews are good) will be the Oppo UDP-203 4K UHD Blu-ray player. The future of Home Cinema is very exciting.

#6 is good value 'cos it includes 4K, 3D, 2D, DC versions from Amazon.com in the sales.

Digital Copy will be up for grabs in the usual thread.

Jason Bourne showed up today from Best Buy. No way for me to watch it until the Oppo is released.

My thoughts on Disney entering the 4K UHD market.

All new Disney titles are released on Blu-ray with 7.1 audio. The movies, when at the theatre, are mostly Dolby Vision and Dolby ATMOS. Why are they not including ATMOS on their BD releases?

My thinking is that sometime in 2017, Disney will start to release UHD titles with both Dolby Vision (DV) and Dolby ATMOS, when there are players that can support DV (Oppo 203 anyone). I also believe that their releases will be a large step up from some of the rather poor catalog offerings that we have been served up so far. Imagine the Marvel movies in 4K HDR and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) and all of their recent animated hits such as Frozen and Moana. We NEED Disney to keep the 4K momentum going, otherwise it will die.

Still, early days yet, and I am looking forward to seeing (and hearing) UHD with true 4K DI's becoming the norm in the not too distant future.

    Just my personal opinion :)

By the way, the antiquated Samsung that I got is actually capable of HDR after all.
