What was the last movie you watched?

Been a bit quiet lately, so I figured I would try and stir some convo up. This board seemed right for this thread, so I put it here. Being dvd collectors, I assume we all watch movies at least semi-frequently. Here goes.

    16 Blocks - 3.5/5
Not too bad. A very respectable cast, including Bruce Willis and Mos Def. The plot was decent as well. My biggest complaint, and a sizable one at that, is the timing and sequencing of events in the film. Certain things that happened in 5-7 minutes in the movie took place in a 12-15 minutes scene. Yeah, that bugs me too. And some stuff that happened in 5 minutes are UNFATHOMABLE to possibly occur in that short time span. Those nitpicks aside, it wasn't that bad and is worth a viewing.

What was the last movie you watched?

    Fearless: 4.75/5

I just got this DVD out of the discount bin, came with all three versions, the theatrical, Uncut, and Directors cut. I watched the long version, and I have to say, this movie just blew me away. Jet Li can be a hit or miss action star and this one was definately a hit. I loved how the story showed him grow as a person, from an arrogant cocky selfish person to a patriot willing to help others to help his country. The only thing that kept this movie from getting a perfect score from me was some of the kung fu scenes seemed a little over the top compared to some of the others..... normally, this would play well in one of those old 70's kung fu flicks, but not mixed into a movie were the majority of the fighting looked more or less real.

Overall, I loved it, and would recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet.

Actually, I don't think I have seen it. I completely agree that Li is hit or miss; I liked him in "War" but though he was a miss in "The One". I'll remember to see this, and I'll probably rent Forbidden Kingdom upon its dvd release date.

What was the last movie you watched?

    Children of Men
    3/5

I thought the movie was okay, but the storyline was weak to me and not totally believable. It's pace was not as good as I'd like, and it was kind of predicable. I still thought Clive Owen was good in it, and there were moments of the movie that I enjoyed. I guess I somehow was hoping for something more. I don't know why, 'cos I hadn't actually read that this movie was like superb or anything. I might watch it again, just to give it another shot, but I will probably wind up trading it in after that. Michael Cane was also pretty good, even though it was weird seeing him play a dope smoking role.

And I'm a HUGE Jet Li fan. I agree that he is either hit or miss, but I guess I just like kung fu movies too much 'cos I have some of his not so great films. I've been wanting to pick up all his movies, but some are just plain silly and not really worth watching more than once. Fearless, however, definitely has replay value and is one of my favorites of his, if not my most favorite jet li movie. He was also good in Hero. I thought he did a great job in Fearless with the acting, and you know he killed it with the fighting sequences. I don't know if you guys know it or not, but Jet Li said that Fearless was going to be his last wushsu martial arts epic movie he will be in. When I heard this, I thought I'd die, but he is only going to stop making the old style wushu movies. He has still been making movies. He made War and Forbidden Kingdom after Fearless. Some other Jet movies I would recommend would be Black Mask, Kiss of the Dragon, and Unleashed.

Another little Jet Li fact is that in Hero, there was a much anticipated fight sequence that occurred b/n him and Donnie Yen. The last time they fought was in Once Upon A Time in China II.

What was the last movie you watched?

    Near Dark: 5/5

I just watched this movie again on the free On-Demand channel on comcast cable. This movie came out around the same time Lost Boys, but the Lost Boys had a younger "hipper" cast and a bigger budget so it got the treatment this movie should have gotten. Not only was this movie a refreshing change form most Vamp movies of its time, it had THREE of the Alien movie actors in it (the director of this movie was married to the Director who did Alien I believe, I could be mistaken). Lance Hendrickson made one badass vampire in this movie, and I enjoy pretty much any movie him and Bill Paxton are in, as they are both great actors.

Eddie and the Cruisers + the Sequel: pt1-5/5 pt2-3/5

I was a big fan of the first movie when it originally came out. Its one of the few things Micheal Pare has done that had some quality to it (that Canadian Starhunter TV series should have made him want to cut his wrists after being in it). The story was solid, the music was awesome, and everyone did a bang up job on the acting.

The sequel was pretty good for what it was, but did not quite have the "bite" the first one had. They could have done more with it, but they still did ok overall with the telling of Eddie's story after he left rock and roll and faked his own death. I still can't see how all the Cruisers fans in the movie never noticed he was Eddie, he didn't look that different, and he should have been a dead give-away when he burned off a riff on his trusty axe and belted out those vocals (I'd like to mention that Pare's lip-synch in both movies was so on the money that it was urban legend that he really did the singing, we know he can't sing for shyte tho). With a little more thought in the writing of this sequel, it could have rivaled the first in quality and epic-ness.

What was the last movie you watched?

(No Rating) Dark Knight & Gotham Knight

Ok don't kill me for this, but that was the latest movie I watched. And I fell asleep for most of it. I was tired from bad weekend of wake & funeral of a friend's. And my friend wanted to go watch it to take mind off things. I missed a good 1/2 of it, I think? I got the jist of the movie, but either I was too tired or it did not sustain my interest enough to keep me fully awake; whereas Hellboy 2 was a full adrenaline rush movie. Also the theatre was freezing, so all around I just wanted it to end so I could get out of there.

Right after that my friend wanted to watch Gotham Knight, and guess what I fell asleep. Missed 90% of it. It is so weird watching the animation in flat 2D. Not sure how to describe it, but it was weird compared to the sophisticated animation of Disney and some Japanese Anime.

All in all it was a bad movie weekend for me. But I did find out I won tickets to an advanced screening of Mummy 3 next week, so I am very excited. Hopefully I will NOT fall asleep LOL and I will bring an extra jacket.

What was the last movie you watched?

Sorry to hear of the bad experiences. Hopefully things will look up soon for you!

I went to the theater today! First time since Iron Man (2 months).

    Wall-E - 8/10.

Overall, a very decent flick. I have my complaints, but I enjoyed it. I'll start with the positives. The animation is beyond stunning, it's absolutely gorgeous. The camera shots were very intuitive and something I've never seen in an animation before. The story had a touching love story and a decent plot.

Now, for my negatives. The story was too predictable, the plot took too long to build up, and there is a complete lack of action in the movie, something I think could (and should) have been avoided. Being an action guy, this disappointed me. I think it's worth a viewing and rental for sure, but I think I'll skip a purchase.

Now I didn't mention any "political" things at all, because one can watch the movie and appreciate it just fine without the political weight. Including it, I would put my rating at 7/10. It was nice to see their take on earth and trash and the corporate takeover of most of our lives, but this is nothing new to me. I read and keep up with News (or the lack thereof - ZING!) and I am aware of all the "green" things. But anywho. Whatever.

Hopefully I can see Dark Knight and Hancock/Wanted next week.

What was the last movie you watched?

    Two movies for me today

    On Her Majesty's Secret Service:
I decided several weeks back that I wanted to watch all 22 Bond movies before the Quantum of Solace came out (I am counting Never Say Never Again as well and even considered the original made for TV Casino Royale and the Woody Allen 1967 spoof of Casino Royale which would take me to 24) and I figured if I watched one a week tell November I would get them all done in time. So Sunday has become Bond day and today was movie #6 in six weeks.

Now I have never seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service (this, Never Say Never again and the original tv Casino Royale are the only Bond movies I have never seen as I have seen the other 21 movies) as it was before my time and I only added it to my Bond collection last Summer (it was in fact the last movie I needed to complete my Bond collection). Now I see where all the distaste for George Lazenby comes from, don't get me wrong he actually does a pretty good job but at time does he every feel like James Bond. This would have made a perfect 60's spy movie but it really doesn't feel like a Bond movie. And they changed Blofeld the first casting and appearance of the character was set just one movie before it in You Only Live Twice and they seem to forget they nailed the character two years before or that Bond and Blofeld met and they should know each other.

But in all fairness it may have the most iconic Bond moment in the entire franchise when Bond's bride of 30 minutes is shot and Bond is left in a state of bewilderment. This is what they look like they are trying to capture in Quantum of Solace as they try and release his rage at losing the love of his life.

    7/10

and the Dark Knight for a second time
awesome movie, best of the year so far, and I want to see it a third time but my wife won't go with me again so I am on my own for the next viewing. The Joker is awesome, I so want a Joker action figure but when i went to Target all they had was like 50 different versions of Batman
    10/10

    Wanted - 8.5/10.

A great action flick. Superb action scenes and special effects, fantastic acting (Morgan Freeman is always a WIN), and a decent plot and an ending I liked. I would recommend this to anyone liking action.

Now I need to see Dark Knight.

What was the last movie you watched?

I was bored, so another movie

Sleepwalking - 4/10. An okay drama. Unfortunately, I'm not a big drama person. So the lack of action and plot movement were huge letdowns to me. It was horrendously slow, the dialogue was nothing special, and the message is nothing new. I would say pass on this unless drama is a favorite of yours. But even then, I would find it lacking anything great.

What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Jackie Chan's "New Police Story" the other day and I have to say that, there is some bad acting in this movie. There were a few good laughter moments but I won't get in to it, as I do not to spoil it for anyone that has not seen it yet.

I am presently watching The Three Stooges Collection Volume One 1934 - 1936.
I have The Three Stooges Volume Two 1937 - 1939 next up in queue.
